Christian Education, Church Programs, and Scholarship Committee
Chair: Edie Makynen

Purpose: To insure full, wholesome, and Biblical presentation in the form of teaching and participation of all ages.  To review application for college scholarship assistance presented by church members, act upon those application, and inform the recipients and the congregation of approval awards.  To involve the congregation in a variety of fun filled activities designed to encourage greater interaction and sharing.

Membership:  Minimum of Pastor, one (1) session member, two (2) deacons, Church school teachers, substitute teachers, nursery volunteers, and four (4) congregational members as needed.

Meetings: at least quarterly.

Responsibilities:

  1. Open communications with one another regarding curriculum and requests for special attention regarding specific activities/events and classroom needs.
  2. Organization of church programs and presentations by students/teachers on scheduled dates such as Christmas Eve Services, community socials, etc.
  3. Will report to session any requests or changes needed that cannot be fulfilled without permission of Session.
  4. Responsible for staffing of Sunday School each year.
  5. Works with Church staff to plan special programs such as family-night suppers, game nights, wiener roasts, caroling parties, strawberry festivals, etc.
  6. Think about educational programs that might be scheduled at times other than Sunday morning.
  7. Organize, staff and evaluate the Vacation Bible School program.

Scholarship—

  1. The chairperson will call a subcommittee to meet when needed.
  2. All minutes of meetings, application, and other information maintained by the committee will be kept confidential and will be stored safely in the Pastor’s Office file.
  3. All meetings of the committee shall be closed meetings, with no other individuals present except at the invitation of the committee.
  4. The selection(s) will be announced each year in February/March.
