Personnel Committee
Chair: Pam Headman

Purpose: The Personnel committee is to provide counsel and support for the Pastor and all staff of East Side Presbyterian Church.  They are to be readily available to all staff members on a confidential basis in order to enhance their working relationship with one another, the pastor and the congregation.

Membership:  Minimum of Pastor, one (1) session member, one(1) deacon, and three (3) congregational members as needed.

Meetings: at least twice per year.

Responsibilities:

  • The primary responsibility is to conduct an Annual Performance Review of the Staff.
    • Every employee shall receive an annual performance review with the participation of the employee and the Personnel Committee before the October Session Meeting.
    • Compensation for all ordained staff members is recommended by the Nominating Committee and is the final responsibility of the congregation along with the approval of the Presbytery.
    • The committee shall conduct an annual compensation review with each member of the staff prior to the development of the annual budget.  Individual salaries shall be recommended to the Session.
  • Grievances:

All problems arising from employment or conditions of employment are to be directed to the pastor as head of staff.  In those cases where the solution to a problem has not been worked out in discussion with the pastor, the employee may appeal to the Personnel Committee.  If the matter is still not resolved, the employee may appeal to the Session.

If the above steps fail to provide an acceptable remedy, the employee may file a written complaint with the appropriate Presbytery committee.  The committee becomes a mediator between the Pastor/Session and the employee, and will work out a solution acceptable to all three parties involved.
