Worship and Music Committee
Chair: Cathy Burnham

Purpose:  To assure that the worship of the church is fully responsive to and expressive of the needs and desires of the congregation and that worship is always done to the praise and glory of God; to assure the full participation of the congregation in worship; to provide feedback to the pastor on worship activities.  To work with the music personnel regarding music used and other decisions on how to enhance the worship through music.

Membership:  Minimum of one (1) session member, two (2) deacons, three (3) from congregation, choir director, and organist.

Meetings:  at least quarterly

Responsibilities:

  • To arrange for elders to serve communion.
  • To find Lay Readers to serve at regular services.
  • To serve as liaison with the person in charge of ushers.
  • To consider the church’s participation in ecumenical events (services) in the community and to make recommendations to session about East Side’s possible participation.
  • To provide training for lectors and other worship participants.
  • To explore ways of involving children and youth in worship.
  • To evaluate new worship materials and ideas for use at East Side.
  • To arrange for supply preachers during absence of pastor.
  • Arrange special services involving the choirs.
  • Set up special summer music including payment decisions.
  • Invite friends or family of our church members to occasionally participate with their special musical talents.
  • Send thank you notes to people who provide special music at worship services.
  • Arrange to have organs and pianos tuned as needed.
  • Oversees the work and evaluation of the organist/choir directors.

The pastor has the responsibility for designing worship services but is receptive to thoughts and suggestions from all members of the congregation.
